The festivities begin

Yesterday the tree went up, the start of the Christmas period and time for something a little festive on the blog.

Shot composition isn’t exactly easy. Without dismantling half the decorations and starting again you’re pretty much stuck with whats there so it’s a question of getting the camera in position. With very low light shooting (looking at 1 second exposures) the tripod is essential, and annoying.

The big challenge with Christmas decor is depth of field. I think for these decorations the best shots would be obtained with a long lens (200-300mm) with shallow depth of field to blur the background lights.  That said, I quite like these.
