The musings of a budding photographer

Variable light

with 3 comments

A graphic demonstration here of the difference that light can make. This first image was opportunistic, I glanced out of the window and saw the double rainbow, ran for the camera, and here is the result. This is straight out of the camera, no processing other than an export to jpeg.

This second image is the view at exactly the same time from the other side of the house. Well, 30 seconds later anyway.

Quite a stark contrast. I’m a bit confused about the spiders web effect around the sun. Lens flare I understand but I’ve never seen it like this. It’s an interesting effect but I’d like to know what it is and how to prevent it.

  1. Love the sunrays over the rooftops and the deep contrast!

  2. Bit of an update. I had a good look today in the daylight, there are two bushes in the line of sight of that spiders web look. I now suspect that this is simply light hitting an out of focus bit of tree (lots of twigs), and so am much happier with that image. One of mi faves infact.
